Review of 2009 Ridge Vineyards "Three Valleys" Sonoma Zinfandel ...

I have a deep, deep love for?Ridge Vineyards wines.

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagr.am, you already know this.

Since I talk about Ridge wine incessantly.

Ridge Vineyards has such a variety of wines and they are all delicious.

Lately, I have been really enjoying all of the different Zinfandel blends.

Ridge?s ?Three Valleys? is a blend of 70% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, 15% Carignane, 3% Grenache, 2% Mataro.

The Zinfandel defines the varietal of wine as well as adds that full-bodied, Zin fruit factor.

The Petite Sirah gives this wine its kick. Its spice. Its pepper. Its depth and structure. It is most definitely the grape that makes me love this wine so much.

The Carignane contributes to the acidity and the brighter fruits.

The Grenache contributes to the softness on the palate as well as some of the spicy, berry flavors.

The Mataro, which is the same as the?Mourv?dre?grape, adds an herbal character to the wine and also contributes to the color and body of the wine.

This wine is smooth, earthy and elegant. For around $20 a bottle, this wine is an excellent value. Although it doesn?t have quite the depth of other more expensive Ridge wines, it is still a great sipper and pairs nicely with food. We drink this wine all of the time with my Barbecue Chicken Pizza with Crispy Shallots.

~ Grilled Lamb
